“Prayer does not come as a remedy, rather as the expression of the understanding that the soul is continually praying…. The prayer of the soul resembles a rose that opens her gentle petals toward the dew or in the presence of the rays of the sun that shine upon her…. If only one would pray the entire day long.”

~ HaRav Avraham Yitzchak haKohen Kook (Olat Ra'aya)

Tal Torah Image

As an inner journey, prayer is personal, private and often spontaneous. As a spiritual discipline within a community, prayer takes on a more fixed, collective almost philosophical dimension. At TAL TORAH, women are invited to explore the rich language and imagery of the siddur along with developing their own personal understanding of prayer.

TAL TORAH’s Women’s Tefillah program offers both intellectual and practical opportunities for women and girls to learn about prayer and daven together as a community. Because TAL TORAH is a pioneer in the area of women’s Torah reading within the Orthodox community, we feel it is important to provide our students with the possibility of continuing to read Torah, Haftorah and the megillot beyond Bat Mitzvah. Thus, after Bat Mitzvah, girls and their mothers often return to TAL TORAH to broaden their knowledge of trop and to read with us at TAL TORAH’s annual Megillat Esther reading at Purim and Megillat Ruth reading at Shavuot, as well as for our celebrations of Shabbat morning davening on Shabbat Shuvah and Shabbat Beshalach.

Our Women’s Tefillah brings together a diverse community of women and girls from all religious and secular backgrounds and creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere of gentle and joyous relationship with oneself, others and God.
